Intuitive Surgical, which is a leader in minimally invasive surgery conducted with the help of robotics, has garnered the approval of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for its latest da Vinci X Surgical System. It will now start marketing its product in the U.S. later this year. The da Vinci X System will offer healthcare systems and surgeons access to a highly sophisticated surgery technology using robotics at a lesser price. This will be particularly helpful to price sensitive customers.
What are the advantages of the new system?
Even though priced lower, the system is equipped with all of Intuitive’s surgical technologies assisted by robotics and also its programs, services, support, and solutions. Further, it has the vision cart and surgeon console that the main product has. Besides, new capabilities can be added to the latest system and can be upgraded to satisfy the requirements of a proliferating practice.
The company has announced that the da Vinci X System helps to bring about optimized and focused-quadrant surgery along with processes such as partial nephrectomy, prostatectomy, benign hysterectomy, sacrocolpopexy, etc.
Its system has port placement which is flexible and 3-D digital optics. In fact, the new system is even easier to operate and is equipped with setup technology which contains voice and laser guidance, a draping technique that makes prep hassle-free and an integrated endoscope.
In 2016, a multi-institutional research revealed the use of da Vinci robotic surgery suite for repair of hernia and discovered that it lowered complications post the surgery and helped in recovery. The procedure also lowered overall expenditure by decreasing the time of stay and other complexities.
