Are You Prepared For Pregnancy?

If you’re trying to conceive, there are a few things you should be doing (or not doing) to improve your chances of getting pregnant and having a healthy baby. The following checklist should help you prepare for pregnancy. Before entering into the topic, here we suggest you Best Fertility Hospital In Coimbatore.

Maintain a healthy weight

Being underweight or overweight may make conceiving more difficult. Eat a moderate, balanced diet containing a variety of foods with a focus on lots of fruit and veg, unrefined carbs (wholemeal bread, rice, and pasta), low-fat protein, and healthy fats (omega 3).

For dads to be, chicken, beans, steak, and green veg can all boost the production of sperm. If possible, buy fresh, organic produce. Exercise regularly, but not to excess.

Avoid certain things (this applies to both partners)

Cigarettes and drugs are a real no, no if you want to conceive! And it may also be prudent to avoid caffeine. Alcohol may be OK in small amounts, but I’d suggest avoiding it altogether (and binge drinking can have a devastating effect on sperm).

Food with lots of Vitamin A can be harmful to a developing baby, so avoid liver products and pate. Certain fish may contain mercury, so avoid shark, swordfish, marlin, raw shellfish, and tuna should be restricted to two small steaks a week or four small tins. Limit oily fish to two times a week.

Take supplements

Folic acid is a must for mums-to-be: 400mcg a day is normal, but if you’re not sure, consult your doctor. Also, a conception multivitamin and Omega 3 may help.

Again, I’d suggest you consult your doctor to ensure that the supplements you’re taking are appropriate for your specific needs – too much can be as bad as too little.

Have more sex

Regular sex three times a week will help ensure that there is enough sperm to fertilize the egg when it’s released. And remember to create intimacy and keep sex fun. Making a baby is an act of creation, so don’t turn getting pregnant into a chore.

Relax

Stress and tension can, over time, deplete the body, disrupt your thinking and prevent you from feeling at one with the world. Being relaxed helps the body and mind be more resilient and creates a flow of energy much more conducive to the creative process.

If you find it difficult to relax, go for a massage or facial, sign up for a yoga or meditation class, go for a walk or get a piece of relaxation music. Or if you can afford it, you might want to book a holiday!

Get support

Don’t suffer alone, find a friend who will be supportive. You and your partner are going through this together, but talking to a friend about your infertility issues takes the load off your partner.

Find someone who is understanding but not indulgent; who will listen without needing to give advice; who can distract you if you start obsessing and who can be optimistic (but also knows when to let you indulge in a little self-pity). Get tested

Make sure you’re up to date with your smears and have been vaccinated against rubella. You may also want to get tested for Chlamydia (a simple urine test) as this can be a cause of infertility. For more details contact, Women’s Fertility Centre Coimbatore
